Tattooing, piercing, and scarification have been used for centuries by communities for many reasons. Sacred Skin is a series of documentaries. Director Maellyn Macintosh will travel to find the last communities who still use body modification as part of their culture, to document the fascinating stories behind these practices before they die out.
The first episode is being funded entirely by the public on Indiegogo – http://igg.me/at/sacredskindoc . This episode sees her return to India to spend time with the tribes who tattoo for healing, based on an ancient form of Ayurveda. She will also spend time with the fully tattooed Ramnami community whose tattoos represent their God, Ram, and travel further afield to meet other tribes whose piercings and tattoos are an essential way of life.
Please help make ‘Sacred Skin in India’ a reality. Backers can pledge anything from £1 to £1000 and will be the first to receive the film. Other perks include a photo book of the journeys, picture postcards and credits in the film including Producer and Sponsor. http://igg.me/at/sacredskindoc
